Down Syndrome Creed

My Face may be different

But My feelings the same

I laugh and I cry

And I take pride in my gains

I was sent here among you

To teach you to love

As God in heaven

Looks down from above

To him I'm no different

His love knows no bounds

Its those here among you

In cities and towns

That judge me by standards

That man has imparted

But this family I've chosen

Will help me get started

For I'm one of the Children

So special and few

That came here to learn

The same lessons as you

That love is acceptance

It must come from the heart

We all have the same purpose

Though not the same start

The Lord gave me Life

To Life and embrace

And I'll do as you do

But at my own pace.

*** IMPORTANT NEWS***

Please call your congressional Representative on Thursday July 9. Ask him or her to co-sponsor the IDEA Fairness Restoration Act, H. R. 2740. This is important because it helps parents in their legal battles with schools to win appropriate services and placements for their child. It focuses on the fact that school districts can use our tax dollars to employ and pay psychologists and other technical experts.

Most parents cannot afford to pay thousands of dollars for expert testimony that is sometimes necessary to prevail in IDEA due process hearings and litigation. Parents usually have fewer resources, but have to bear a greater financial burden than the school.

The IDEA Fairness Restoration Act will override the Supreme Court's decision in Arlington Central School District v. Murphy (2006). It will allow parents who prevail in due process or litigation to be reimbursed for their expert witness fees.

***SWINE FLU***

As parents one of our biggest concerns right now is the Swine Flu. Should we vaccinate our child? Many parents have serious concerns about the use of vaccines. Be sure to get all the information and talk to as many people, both parents and professionals, so that you can make an informed decision.
